final

August 7, 2017, 8:25 p.m. local time (9:25 p.m. CEST )

The favorite for the triple jump was the Colombian Caterine Ibargüen. She was the reigning world champion , had also won this title in 2013 and was also the 2016 Olympic champion . Her fiercest opponents were the Kazakh Olga Rypakowa, who was third in the 2015 World Cup and third in the 2016 Olympics, Yulimar Rojas from Venezuela, second in 2016, the 2015 vice world champion and 2016 vice European champion Hanna Knjasjewa-Minenko from Israel and the reigning European champion Patrícia from Israel Portugal.

With her 14.67 m achieved in the first attempt, Ibargüen was immediately at the top. Rojas followed with 14.55 m before Rypakowa with 14.45 m. Ibargüen improved again by two centimeters in the second round, but Rojas now reach 14.82 m, taking the lead. In lap three, too, the three leading athletes were the best in the field. Ibargüen climbed to 14.89 m and pushed Rojas back from their leading position. The Venezuelan showed with 14.83 m, however, that she was still to be expected. Rypakowa scored 14.77 m in her third attempt.

In round four, the existing interim result was retained. That changed in the next round. Rojas jumped to 14.91 m and was thus back in front. Ibargüen and Rypakowa could not improve with their remaining attempts, the medals were distributed. The new world champion was Yulimar Rojas. The favorite Caterine Ibargüen was beaten by two centimeters to second in front of the bronze medalist Olga Rypakowa. Hanna Knjasjewa-Minenko scored 14.42 m in the fifth round and came a little closer to the three leaders in fourth. The German Kristin Gierisch finished fifth, reaching 14.33 m in the last jump. Anna Jagaciak-Michalska took sixth place with 14.25 m.
