List of top scorer of the Belgian football championship

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The list of top scorers of the Belgian soccer championship is a list of the top scorers since the Belgian soccer championship ( First Division , current sponsor name Jupiler Pro League ) was founded in 1895. The player who scores the most goals in a competition in a season is the top scorer.

The first top scorer was Englishman Samuel Hickson ( FC Lüttich ), who defended this title the following season. The number of goals scored in the first few seasons are not known. The first Belgian was Gustave Vanderstappen for Royale Union Saint-Gilloise in 1903. Erwin Vandenbergh is the most successful title collector with six top scorer crowns (1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1986, 1991). Most goals in one season scored Jules Van Craen ( Lierse SK ) and Arthur Ceuleers ( Beerschot AC ) 41 goals in the 1942/43 season.

So far, German soccer players have been able to register four times. Lothar Emmerich from Dortmund switched to K. Beerschot VAV in 1969 and won the title with 29 goals in the first season. Erwin Kostedde crowned the last season of his first time at Standard Liège in 1971 with 26 goals and the top scorer's crown. After the Bundesliga scandal , in which he was not involved, striker Harald Nickel moved from Arminia Bielefeld to Belgium, where he won the award for the most accurate shooter of the 1977/78 season with 22 goals at Standard Liège. The last one so far was Erwin Albert , who only made two short appearances at Hertha BSC , was much more successful in Belgium. In addition to two championships, the cup and the Supercup, Albert won the top scorer title with KSK Beveren in 1979.
