Maitland is a city in Orange County in the US state of Florida with 15,751 inhabitants (as of 2010).

geography

Neighboring cities are Altamonte Springs ( Seminole County ), Eatonville and Winter Park . The city is about 10 km north of Orlando .

history

Maitland was first connected to the railroad network by the South Florida Railroad in 1880.

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 15,751 inhabitants were distributed among 7767 households. The population density was 1158.2 inh / km². 80.6% of the population identified themselves as whites , 11.1% as African American , 0.2% as Indians and 3.5% as Asian Americans . 2.2% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.5% to several ethnic groups. 10.4% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 27.8% of all households and persons aged 65 or over lived in 22.0% of all households. 57.7% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.26 and the average family size was 2.93.

23.8% of the population were younger than 20 years, 27.5% were 20 to 39 years old, 29.7% were 40 to 59 years old, and 19.1% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 39 years. 48.2% of the population were male and 51.8% were female.

The median annual income was $ 70,988, with 7.4% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the first language of 93.50% of the population, 4.71% spoke Spanish and 1.79% had another mother tongue.

Maitland is crossed by Interstate 4 , US Highways 17 and 92 ( SR 15 , 600 ) and Florida State Road 414 on a shared route . The nearest airport is Orlando Sanford International Airport (around 20 km northeast).

Maitland is a SunRail station on the DeBary route via Orlando to Poinciana . There is a connection to the Amtrak long-distance trains at Winter Park station .

The crime rate in 2010 was 183 points (US average: 266 points) in the low range. There was one rape, twelve robberies, 22 assaults, 136 break-ins, 293 thefts and 27 car thefts.
