Compared to the previous season , the newly promoted Gżira United and Senglea Athletics replaced the relegated FC Birkirkara , FC Marsa . Gżira was first class again since the 1974/75 season , Senglea for the first time since the 1976/77 season .

The season was played back and forth. There were two points for a win, one point for a draw and no point for a loss. In the event of a tie, a decision game was played for the championship and the relegation places. The last two placed had to relegate to the First Division.
