Neunkirchen is a district and also the capital of the municipality of Neunkirchen-Seelscheid in the North Rhine-Westphalian Rhein-Sieg district and was an independent municipality until the municipal reorganization in 1969.

Residents

In 1830 Neunkirchen had 361 inhabitants. In 1845 the place had 341 Catholic residents in 66 houses. In 1901 the place had 380 inhabitants.

In 1885 the community had an area of ​​3338 hectares , 1768 of which were arable land, 292 meadows and 1011 forests. The parish had 53 homes with 698 residential buildings (including uninhabited) and 636 households. Of the 2973 inhabitants, 1504 were male and 1469 were female. In addition to 2,857 Catholics, there were 114 citizens of Protestant faith and two of Jewish faith.

On August 1, 1969, the community was merged with the neighboring community of Seelscheid to form the new community of Neunkirchen-Seelscheid.

Infrastructure

In 1910 the community had schools in Neunkirchen, Birkenfeld, Eischeid, Pohlhausen and Schönau. There was also a higher boys' school in Konvikt Neunkirchen. In addition to the mayor, there was a police officer, a doctor and two midwives. In terms of clubs, there was a comradely club, the Söntgerath choir, the Germania gymnastics club from Wiescheid, the loan association, the cattle insurance association and the association for the protection and promotion of non-profit interests.

In addition to the town hall of the new community, the Catholic parish church of St. Margareta and a Protestant church, the Antoniuskolleg founded in 1899 , the Clara-Schumann-Realschule and the community secondary school Neunkirchen-Seelscheid are located in Neunkirchen .

In Neunkirchen there was a hospital until the end of the 1970s, initially in a half-timbered house in the center, then in a newly constructed larger building on the southern outskirts. Afterwards it served as a retirement home for a long time and is now used for residential and commercial space.

Two industrial areas are located in the local area. In the northern industrial area of ​​Ohlenhohn, numerous small and medium-sized businesses are located, including the electronics company Tyco International . On the industrial site in the south there was a factory of the cosmetics company Avon , later a production of the beverage manufacturer Eckes and then of the company Eschbach Keramik. Today another use of the partially fallow land that makes sense for the location is under discussion.
