Oberhaid is a municipality in the Upper Franconian district of Bamberg .
geography
Geographical location
The community is located about seven kilometers northwest of Bamberg . The highest elevations are the Spitzelberg with 325 m in the west and the Semberg with 393 m in the east. The location in the Main Valley in the area of the Haßberge Nature Park is ideal for hikers and cyclists. The Unterhaid part of the municipality is the lowest-lying place in the Bamberg district at 230 m above sea level. NN .
Neighboring communities
Oberhaid borders the municipal areas of Lauter , Bischberg , Viereth-Trunstadt , the municipality-free area of Semberg and the urban areas of Baunach , Hallstadt and Bamberg. The municipality of Stettfeld and the city of Eltmann already belong to the district of Haßberge (Lower Franconia) .

history
Until the 19th century
The Fulda Monastery already owned the municipality in the eighth century. The Michaelsberg Monastery built in the 13th century from its basic rule in Oberhaid. The place thus belonged to the domain of the bishopric of Bamberg , ecclesiastically, however, to the diocese of Würzburg until 1810 and remained subject to tithing . Oberhaid was almost completely destroyed during the Thirty Years War , but rebuilt afterwards. Since the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss of 1803, Oberhaid has belonged to Bavaria like large parts of Franconia (see also History of Franconia ). The communities of Oberhaid, Unterhaid and Staffelbach came into being with the community edict of 1818.
The connection to the railway network took place on February 1, 1852.

According to the census on May 9, 2011, 80.7% of the population are Roman Catholic and 8.9% Evangelical Lutheran. 10.4% have another religion or are non-denominational.

On May 1, 1978, the formerly independent communities Unterhaid and Staffelbach were incorporated.

There is also a brewery in the community that produces its beer in its own brewery, the Wagner Brewery in Oberhaid. The Gambrinusbräu in Unterhaid has the beer brewed in a contract brewing process. The Hertlein brewery in Staffelbach closed in 2017.
