Piave (wine)
Under the name Piave , white and red wines are produced in the northern Italian provinces of Venice and Treviso , which have had the status of a controlled designation of origin " Denominazione di origine controllata " (DOC for short) since August 11, 1971 . The last update was published on March 7, 2014.
Growing area
Cultivation and vinification may be carried out in the following municipalities:
- In the province of Venice: Fossalta di Piave , Marcon , Meolo , Noventa di Piave , Quarto d'Altino , San Donà di Piave , and in parts of the municipalities of Venice , Ceggia , Eraclea , Jesolo , Musile di Piave and Torre di Mosto
- In the province of Treviso: Arcade , Breda di Piave , Casale sul Sile , Cessalto , Chiarano , Cimadolmo , Codognè , Fontanelle , Godega di Sant'Urbano , Gorgo al Monticano , Mareno di Piave , Maserada sul Piave , Monastier, Oderzo , Ormelle , Ponte di Piave , Ponzano Veneto , Portobuffolé , Povegliano , Roncade , Salgareda , San Biagio di Callalta , San Fior , San Polo di Piave , Santa Lucia di Piave , Spresiano , Vazzola , Zenson di Piave , and in parts of the municipalities of Carbonera , Casier , Gaiarine , Mansuè , Mogliano Veneto , Orsago , Preganziol , Silea , Villorba , Colle Umberto , Conegliano , Cordignano , Giavera del Montello , Montebelluna , Motta di Livenza , Nervesa della Battaglia , Paese , San Vendemiano , Susegana , Trevignano , Vittorio del Veneto and Volpago Montello .
In 2017, 28,212 hectoliters of DOC wine were produced.

The following types of wine are produced within this denomination:
Blended wine ( Cuvée )
- Piave Rosso : must consist of at least 50% Merlot grapes . A maximum of 50% other red grape varieties may be added.
Almost single origin wines
- The following wines must contain at least 85% of the grape variety mentioned. A maximum of 15% other analogous grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in the provinces of Venice and Treviso may be added.
- Piave Cabernet (made from Cabernet Franc and / or Cabernet Sauvignon and / or Carmenère )
- Piave Carmenère
- Piave Merlot
- Piave Manzoni Bianco
- Piave Raboso (from Raboso Piave and / or Raboso Veronese );
- Piave Tai (from Tocai Friulano);
- Piave Verduzzo (from Verduzzo Trevigiano and / or Verduzzo Friulano );
- Piave Chardonnay
