Church of the Assumption

Přeštice (German Prestitz , 1939-1945: Pschestitz ) is a Czech city south of Pilsen and has 7165 inhabitants. The city is 345 m above sea level. M. in the wide, gentle valley of the middle course of the Úhlava river in the southern foothills of the Pilsen basin.

history

The first written mention is recorded in a document from King Otakar I at the beginning of the 13th century. Primeval finds prove the settlement as early as the Bronze Age . Before the Hussite period , Přeštice belonged to the Kladruby Monastery . In the 15th and 16th centuries, the town was owned by the noble family Schwihau von Riesenberg (Švihovský) , from whose coat of arms the town has adopted two black eagles in its coat of arms.

A significant dominant feature of the city is the Baroque Church of the Assumption , built between 1750 and 1775 according to the plans of the church builder Kilian Ignaz Dienzenhofer . During a thorough renovation in recent years, the church received its two baroque tower towers, which had previously been missing.

In the House of the History of Přeštice there is a permanent exhibition with the original of a shop from the interwar period, old handicrafts and industrial services from the area.

A 380 kV substation is located between Přeštice and Dolní Lukavice , in which a circuit of the line coming from Etzenricht (Bavaria) ends.
