Robert Ouko (athlete)

Robert Ouko (born October 24, 1948 in Manga , Nyamira County , † August 18, 2019 in Nairobi ) was a Kenyan track and field athlete .

At the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City , the middle-distance runner over 800 meters was eliminated in the semifinals. At the British Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh in 1970 , he won the same distance in 1: 46.89 minutes. In the 4 x 400 meter relay , the Kenyan team won with Munyoro Nyamau , Julius Sang , Ouku and Charles Asati in 3: 03.63 minutes. In September of the same year, a Kenyan relay with Nyamau, Naftali Bon , Ouku and Thomas Saisi set a world record of 4 times 880 yards with 7: 11.6 minutes.

At the 1972 Olympic Games , Robert Ouko reached the final in the 800 meter run and was fifth in 1: 46.53 min. In the 4 x 400 meter relay, Kenya was the only one under three minutes with 2: 59.83 minutes and won gold in the line-up of Asati, Nyamau, Ouku and Sang.

Robert Ouko was 1.73 m tall and weighed 68 kg during his playing days. After his career he was secretary of the Kenyan Athletics Association.
