The fifth season of the German crime series SOKO Leipzig celebrated its premiere on December 17, 2004 on ZDF . The final was broadcast on December 16, 2005.

The episodes of the season were first broadcast on the Friday 9:15 pm slot. For the first time in the history of SOKO Leipzig , two episodes ( Die Tote aus Riga and Liebe und Tod in Moscow ) were produced in feature length (90 minutes instead of the usual 45 minutes of an episode).

The SOKO team is also investigating the episode Love and Death in Moscow for the first time outside of Germany . In addition to Leipzig, the location of this episode is also the Russian capital Moscow .

However, the husband doesn't seem to know too much about his wife. When it turns out that Melanie Sommer apparently led a double life, the case seems to tend in a new direction. Meanwhile, the heavily pregnant detective superintendent, Ina Zimmermann, sets out to find the solution to the mystery herself and has labor pains in the middle of the field assignment, which she accompanied despite being on duty in the office.

Suspects such as the interpreter Claudia Hansen and Jörn Schubert, the manager of the machine factory, and the dealer Serhat Argin, who looks similar to the one who delivered the letter, quickly move on. But when a bomb attack was carried out on Shaw despite stricter security precautions, Chief Detective Maybach noticed inconsistencies in his apartment.

After the prisoner was released, the investigation began and two suspects were quickly found: Katharina Haller, the wife of the freed man, and Arthur Sova, a colleague of Haller's work. Chief Detective Maybach investigates undercover as a beach volleyball player and determines that Nic is dealing with liquid ecstasy. The SOKO is on the trail of an investigation by the State Criminal Police Office of Saxony against the internationally sought-after Polish drug smuggler Smuda. But the planned access gets out of control and Jan Maybach's life is in danger.

A mistake, as it later turns out: the deeper the investigators dig, the more confused the case becomes. In the end there are four witnesses with completely different statements.

A grave digger is found next to a desecrated grave in Leipzig's southern cemetery. The investigators are at a loss because several graves with the same ending number have been ransacked. Strange things also seem to be going on around the dead, to which the investigators have to find an answer. When a stranger, Mark Lux, appears at the deceased's funeral service, the team decides to take a closer look at the cemetery because the head of the cemetery seems to want to hide something too.
