The Scottish League Cup was played for the 15th time in 1960/61 . The Scottish Football League Cup, which was played among the participants of the Scottish Football League , began on August 13, 1960 and ended with the final on October 29, 1960 in Hampden Park in Glasgow . Heart of Midlothian started as defending champion in the competition that prevailed against Third Lanark in the previous year's final . In this year's final, met Glasgow Rangers to FC Kilmarnock . The Rangers reached the League Cup final for the fifth time after 1947 ,1949 , 1952 and 1958 . The Killies reached the final for the second time after 1953 . The Rangers won the title for the third time with a 2-0 final win after goals from Ralph Brand and Alex Scott . The Killies lost their second final after 1953 against FC Dundee . In the same season , the Rangers became Scottish champions for the 32nd time in the club's history . FC Kilmarnock was runner-up, one point behind .
