The 2016/17 Skeleton World Cup started on December 2, 2016 in Whistler and ended on March 17, 2017 in Pyeongchang . The World Cup comprised eight stations in North America , Europe and Asia and was held parallel to the Bobsleigh World Cup 2016/17 . The racing series was organized by the International Bobsleigh & Skeleton Federation (IBSF). The highlight of the season was the 2017 Skeleton World Championship from February 13th to 26th on the Königssee artificial ice rink . The European Championship also took place at the same time as the fourth World Cup in Winterberg .

The Intercontinental Cup , the European Cup and the North American Cup served as the foundation for the World Cup . The results of all racing series were included in the IBSF Skeleton Ranking 2016/17 .

Participation rates

The quota places for the individual national associations were assigned as follows on the basis of the ranking from the previous season:

• Men:
  • 3 starting positions: Germany , Russia , United States , Austria , Canada     
  • 2 starting places: Latvia , South Korea , United Kingdom , Japan , Switzerland , Italy      
  • 1 starting place: New Zealand , Australia , Spain , Sweden , Czech Republic     

• Women:
  • 3 starting positions: Germany , United States , Canada , Russia    
  • 2 starting places: United Kingdom , Netherlands , Austria , Switzerland    
  • 1 starting place: Latvia , Belgium , Australia , Japan , US Virgin Islands , Spain , South Korea , Sweden
