The Taiwanese national football team enters international competitions as national football team of Chinese Taipei on (see: Chinese Taipei ) . It is the selection team of the best football players of the East Asian Republic of China (Taiwan) put together by the Chinese Taipei Football Association . The Chinese Taipei Football Association was founded in 1924 as the China Football Association in the Republic of China and moved to Taiwan in 1949 after the end of the Chinese Civil War. After the original association had belonged to FIFA from 1932, it was accepted back into the world association as "Taiwan" in 1954, then the name "Republic of China" and finally, under pressure from the PRC, the name "Chinese Taipei".
In contrast to the women's team that took part in the 1991 World Cup, Taiwan's men's team has not yet qualified for a World Cup. The biggest success of the Taiwanese footballers to date was a third place in the 1960 Asian Cup . In qualifying for the 2010 World Cup , they failed in the first round with 0: 9 and 0: 2 to Uzbekistan .
