background

As a police headquarters, the Konsumzentrale is a regular filming location

Simone Thomalla , who had previously played two roles in Tatort episodes, was contacted by MDR in 2006. Martin Wuttke as Keppler actor was later selected jointly by Thomalla and the MDR. He had also previously appeared in two Tatort episodes.

The shooting of the episode Hopeless took place in May and June 2007. The episode Death Penalty was broadcast first , which was filmed later but was planned as the first episode from the start. The death penalty was the 700th film in the series to be broadcast.

Regular filming locations in the Leipzig crime scene include the consumer center in the Plagwitz district as a fictitious police headquarters and a guesthouse in Gohlis where Keppler lives.

A special episode is the double episode from Kinderland and your little one comes , which was first broadcast on Easter 2012. It is the first double episode in Tatort history. In Ihr Kinderlein kommet, Saalfeld and Keppler do not investigate in Leipzig, but in Cologne, where they support their colleagues Ballauf and Schenk .

On January 22, 2014, Das Erste announced that it would air the final episode with the team in 2015.

Figures from the Leipzig crime scene episodes

Eva Saalfeld

Chief Inspector Eva Saalfeld, played by Simone Thomalla , grew up in Leipzig. She became a police officer because of her father, who had been believed to be dead since 1983, who was a people's police officer and her great role model. She is a fun-loving, impulsive and empathetic woman who is often emotionally affected by the cases. In this way she forms the opposite pole to the grouchy Keppler, who cannot be disturbed by anything.

Eva Saalfeld was married to her colleague Keppler. However, the marriage fell apart when the two lost their child together. In addition, Keppler was an alcoholic . At the beginning of the first episode ( death penalty ) , they had been divorced for a few years.

Andreas Keppler

Chief Inspector Andreas Keppler, played by Martin Wuttke , is Eva Saalfeld's ex-husband and her partner on the homicide squad. Keppler is usually addressed by his last name, even by his ex-wife. He comes from West Germany and only arrives in Leipzig at the beginning of the first episode. There he lives in a pension to be free.

Keppler loves order and is an excellent observer, whose introversion shows parallels to Adrian Monk . He is very taciturn, which is often taken as rudeness.

Wolfgang Menzel

Menzel actor Maxim Mehmet (2010)

Wolfgang Menzel ( Maxim Mehmet ) is a forensic technician on the Leipzig homicide squad. He is married and has one child. In the episode Turkish Honey , we learn that his father was a Turk from the Black Sea. His relationship with Eva is good, but he doesn't feel valued enough by Keppler. He takes Menzel's good work for granted and rarely has a word of thanks for him. When Keppler applied for a job in Wiesbaden after the rendezvous with death , Menzel described it as “good news”.

Schmitz

Schmitz ( Dieter Jaßlauk ) is the owner of the pension where Keppler lives. His first name is unknown. Schmitz is an older man who knows his way around Leipzig and can occasionally help Keppler with information. Keppler and Schmitz regularly play chess against each other . Sometimes it happens that Schmitz falls asleep.

As the only recurring figure in the Leipzig episodes, Schmitz does not speak High German, but a Saxon dialect .

Inge Saalfeld

Eva Saalfeld's mother Inge ( Swetlana Schönfeld ) does not agree with Eva's choice of career, but still supports her as much as possible. She is a nurse and regularly looks after people in need with whom Eva interacts during her investigations.

More roles

Other recurring characters are Eva Saalfeld's nephew Lukas (various actors) and the coroners Dr. Striesow ( André Röhner ) and later Dr. Reichau ( Kai Schumann ). In the episodes Schön is different and Rendezvous with Death , Saalfeld has a brief relationship with the doctor Pierre Holsten ( Oliver Bootz ).

reception

The crime scene investigators most popular with the audience are not Saalfeld and Keppler. Between May 2010 and May 2012 the average number of viewers was 8.67 million. This puts the Leipzig team in the middle of the field of crime scene investigators.

In the Tatort episodes with Saalfeld and Keppler, critics recognize an effort to deal with socially relevant topics in the crime thriller.

The Münsterländische Volkszeitung judged in a review that Saalfeld and Keppler were by far the most annoying crime scene investigators. The TV Spielfilm wrote that the team was just bored and would never have worked properly. The Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung , on the other hand, found that Saalfeld and Keppler would replace Ehrlicher and Kain well - not least because of the prehistory of the inspectors, which is often discussed.
