You Know What to Do ( English something like: You know what to do ) is a song by British band The Beatles , in 1995 on her compilation album Anthology 1 was released. It was composed by George Harrison .

You Know What to Do is George Harrison's second composition after Don't Bother Me from the 1963 album With the Beatles . It is not documented whether it was planned to use the song as the 14th track for the album A Hard Day's Night .

You Know What to Do was never fully recorded for EMI by the Beatles or offered to any other artist. It was not until 1991 that it became known that a recording session of the song took place on June 3, 1964, the recording tapes were rediscovered in 1993.

Recording the Beatles

On the morning of June 3, 1964, Ringo Starr noticed tonsillitis during a photo session with the Beatles , so he had to be replaced for the upcoming tour, which was to begin the next day in Copenhagen . Brian Epstein hired the studio musician Jimmy Nicol at short notice , who then rehearsed six songs with the three Beatles in the Abbey Road Studios between 3 and 4 p.m.

Another recording session took place between 5:30 pm and 9:30 pm, in which three test recordings (demos) were made without a drummer. The producer of the recordings was George Martin , Norman Smith was the sound engineer . First song, the Harrison composition was You Know What to Do recorded. It is also not documented in which line-up the songs were recorded. Ian MacDonald writes in his book Revolution in the Head that George Harrison recorded the song alone, but marked it with a question mark. Other sources (Mark Lewisohn: The Complete Beatles Chronicle , CD book accompanying Anthology 1 ) state that the three recordings were made as a group.
