This is a list of pages that are protected, semi-protected, or protected against moves.

Pages must be protected and unprotected by administrators. Listing a page here will not change its protection status. You can request that a page be protected or unprotected at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection.

Pages are listed in chronological order and are currently added and deleted by an automated bot based on the protection log. The oldest pages, listed at the top, are checked to decide whether they should be unprotected, changed to a different sort of protection, moved to a more appropriate listing, or left to remain at the same status for a little while longer.

This page is for temporarily protected pages and recently protected pages whose status has not yet been decided or which have not yet been moved to a more appropriate listing. Related lists for longer-term protection or different kinds of pages are:

Administrators: Please unprotect pages that no longer need protection, generally the oldest ones, and add them to your watchlist. If appropriate, move them to one of the above related lists.

Pages protected because of WP:OFFICE guidelines

Per Jimbo Wales, some articles are protected by User:Danny because of complaints at Wikimedia's office. Do not unprotect these without asking Danny first.

The list of such pages is at Wikipedia:Office Actions#Pages under protection.

Pages protected because of edit wars or vandalism

This list always needs pruning. Wikipedia works perfectly fine on a protection cycle of less than one week. Please examine older listings and unprotect if at all possible. If you add an article here, please remember to check the talk page frequently, and always consider removing protection as soon as possible.

Protected against spambots or banned users

See also: Semi-protected from banned users

In the case of banned users or vandalbots continuing to edit a page, when they cannot easily be blocked, the pages may be long-term semi-protected and/or watched by VoABot II. Either all or certain types of edits (including those on a blacklist) by new users, hosting IPs (open ports), shared IP ranges may be reverted by the bot. Certain IP ranges can also be blacklisted.

This is only used to stop obvious spammers or banned users from adding content. This cannot be used in editing disputes.

Pages watched by VoABot II:

  1. Allegations of Israeli apartheid (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) (Semi-protected)

Images protected while on the Main Page

Images on the main page often become the target of vandalism, particularly being overwritten with shock site images, which harms the credibility of the project because of that page's extreme visibility. Also, it takes some time for sysops to determine what caused a main page change. As such, images have begun to be protected during their time there, and this has become a de facto policy since the second or third week of November 2004.

In order to keep track of these images, please add {{mprotected}} to them. This will add the image to Category:Protected main page images. There are typically 4 to 5 images on the main page.

For main page images from the Wikicommons, the quickest, most effective way to protect them is to copy the image, upload it locally, and add {{c-uploaded}}. Please make sure you copy attribution information from commons along with the image, and speedily delete this file once it is definitely off the Main Page.

If you are an admin at the Commons, you may protect the Commons version, and add {{En main page}} there. However, you must also add {{Mprotected}} on the English Wikipedia's image description page and protect the image here to prevent vandals from uploading a local version.
