Working group for bicycle-friendly municipalities in Bavaria

The working group for bicycle-friendly municipalities in Bavaria (AGFK Bayern) was founded in 2012 as a registered association . The working group wants to contribute to increasing the proportion of cycling in Bavaria and making cycling safer. Only cities, municipalities and districts that are committed to promoting bicycle traffic can become members. The prerequisite for permanent membership is the distinction as a "Bicycle-friendly municipality in Bavaria", which after evaluation by a commission u. a. from the Ministry of Transport , Police and Traffic Guard by the Bavarian State Ministry for Housing, Building and Transport . Every member has to take another exam after seven years. The 38 municipalities as founding members have to prove that they have met the admission criteria within four years. The following 26 municipalities were awarded accordingly by December 2019: Aschaffenburg , Augsburg , Bayreuth , Erlangen , Fürth district , Garching b. Munich , Gunzenhausen , Herzogenaurach , Ingolstadt , Ismaning , Kirchheim b. Munich , Munich , Landshut , Lauf ad Pegnitz , Nuremberg , Oberhaching , Planegg , Regensburg , Schrobenhausen , Schweinfurt , Sonthofen , Starnberg district , Stein , Unterschleißheim , Wolfratshausen , Würzburg .

The chairman of the association has been the district administrator of the Fürth district , Matthias Dießl , since 2016 . Further board members are the Lord Mayor of the City of Munich , Dieter Reiter, as well as the 2nd Mayor of Erlangen , Susanne Lender-Cassens and the 1st Mayor of the City of Sonthofen , Christian Wilhelm. The office of the association is attached to the city administration of Erlangen. Sarah Guttenberger has been the managing director since April 1, 2017. The Chairman of the AGFK Advisory Board is the former Lord Mayor of Erlangen, Prof. Dr. Siegfried Balleis .

Projects

The association organizes an annual symposium together with the Bavarian State Ministry for Housing, Building and Transport , coordinates the city cycling project in the Free State, publishes brochures and guidelines, etc. a. for guiding pedestrian and bicycle traffic to construction sites in the street area, has extensive websites on content-related topics, sends out around three newsletters per year and conducts specialist excursions and specialist working group meetings for its member communities.
