CSI: NY (alternative title CSI: New York ) is an American crime series directed by Anthony E. Zuiker , Carol Mendelsohn and Ann Donahue . It's about a team of crime scene investigators who solve crimes in the big city of New York City . After CSI: Miami, it is the second offshoot of the series CSI: On the trail of the perpetrators . CSI: NY was produced from 2004 to 2013 and broadcast in the United States by CBS , in Germany by VOX , in Austria by ORF 1 and in Switzerland by 3+ .

In May 2012, CBS extended it for a ninth season, which began broadcasting in September 2012. In February 2013, a crossover between CSI: Tracking down the perpetrators and CSI: NY was broadcast.

The discontinuation of the format was announced in May 2013. It is the second CSI series that has been discontinued.

action

Mac Taylor is the head of the New York CSI Laboratory. He and his team gather evidence at the scene of a crime in order to find the culprit. For the questioning of witnesses, the team is assisted by Detective Flack, who works only for the NYPD . The CSI Laboratory, which is also part of the NYPD, employs not only laboratory assistants but also forensics who have had proper police training and therefore also carry a weapon.

At the beginning of the series, the team usually determines 2 cases per episode. This style later changed to one case per episode. At the beginning of the second season, Dr. Hawkes from Forensic Medicine to CSI. His successor was Dr. Hammerback. In addition, at the beginning of the second season, the crime scene investigator Aiden Burn was fired for violating the service regulations and later killed. Her successor was Det. Monroe, who later met Det. Messer, fell in love and married him. They have a daughter together.

production

Like all other CSI series, this one is mainly filmed in Los Angeles and only rarely in New York . In reality there is no CSI in New York. The searchers for clues in New York wear instead the abbreviation CSU (Crime Scene Unit).

The subject of episode 6.04 The DNA Phantom largely corresponds to the search for a perpetrator in southern Germany who has been held responsible for several murders and other crimes since 1993.

Crossover

The characters of the New York CSI team appear even before the actual pilot episode in the episode Searching for Clues in New York of the second season of CSI: Miami : Horatio Caine ( David Caruso ) visits because a double murder leads him to the Big Apple , his there Colleague Mac Taylor ( Gary Sinise ). After this backdoor pilot of the series, Horatio Caine and Mac Taylor meet again in the second season of CSI: NY. The crossover of the two series starts in the CSI: Miami episode Blood Trail of the fourth season and ends in New York with the episode driven hunt .

The 22nd episode of the third season (episode 69) forms a crossover with Cold Case - no victim is ever forgotten . Detective Scotty Valens comes to New York to question Stella Bonasera as a suspect in an old case.

The seventh episode of the sixth season (6.07, Journey into the Abyss - Part 2 , English Hammer Down (2) ) is one of three crossover episodes with CSI: On the trail of the perpetrators (10.07, Journey to the end of morality - part 3 , English The Lost Girls (3) ) and CSI: Miami (8.07, A Journey into Fear - Part 1 , English Bone Voyage (1) ). A connection between a murder in the Everglades and a missing person case in Las Vegas leads Nevada crime scene investigator Ray Langston to Florida and later to New York before he can close the case in his hometown.

In the ninth season, Mac Taylor flies to Vegas to surprise Christine, who he says is attending a seminar there. Once there, he has to find out that she is involved in a criminal case and was apparently kidnapped. He receives the support of the local CSI team, he travels back to New York together with the acting boss DB Russell ( Ted Danson ) and they track down a human trafficking ring with the help of both teams.
