The Cupa României in the 1997/98 season was the 60th tournament for the Romanian Football Cup . The winner for the tenth time was Rapid Bucharest , which was able to prevail in the final on May 6, 1998 against the Universitatea Craiova . Rapid qualified for the European Cup Winners' Cup . Defending champion Steaua Bucharest was eliminated in the quarterfinals.

The clubs of Divizia A only started in the round of the last 32 teams (3rd round). From the round of 16 onwards, all games - apart from the final, which was traditionally played in Bucharest - took place in a neutral place. Only one game was played at a time.
