EHF Champions League 2003/04

At the EHF Champions League 2003/04 37 took Handball part -Vereinsmannschaften, who had qualified in the previous season in their home leagues for the competition. It was the 44th edition of the EHF Champions League and the European Cup of National Champions. The defending champion was the French club Montpellier HB . The cup games began on September 12, 2003, the second final took place on April 24, 2004. In the final RK Celje was able to prevail against SG Flensburg-Handewitt .

mode

This season, for the first time, a total of 32 teams played in eight groups in the group stage, so there was only one qualifying round in the knockout system with a return leg. The winners from the qualifying round moved into the group stage and the losers into the second round of the 2003/04 EHF Cup . In the group stage with eight groups of four teams each, everyone in the group played a game against each other. The top two in each group reached the newly introduced round of 16 and the eight thirds played in the round of 16 of the 2003/04 European Cup Winners' Cup . From the round of 16 onwards, a knockout system was played with a return leg. The winner of the final was the EHF Champions League winner of the 2003/04 season.

qualification

The first legs took place on 12./13. September 2003. The second leg took place on 20./21. September 2003. The meetings between HC Granitas Kaunas and Filippos Verias, which took place in Veria on September 19 and 21, 2003, were an exception .

Group stage

The groups were drawn on July 15, 2003. The group stage was played between October 11, 2003 and November 30, 2003.

The course of the preliminary round group E can be noted as a curiosity. There were only home wins here, so that ultimately all four teams were tied and the goal difference had to decide.
