The Orange Ekstraklasa 2005/06 was the 72nd edition of the Polish top division in football . It took place from July 24, 2005 to May 13, 2006. Legia Warsaw became Polish champions for the fifth time .

From the 2nd division 2004/05 three clubs were promoted: Korona Kielce , GKS Bełchatów and Arka Gdynia , which replaced the relegated GKS Katowice .

This constellation came about because the league size was increased from 14 to 16 clubs. Odra Wodzisław had to compete in the relegation and prevailed against Widzew Łódź .

Polish champion 2005/06 was Legia Warsaw , runner-up was Wisła Krakow . By winning the Cup Wisła Płock was able to qualify for the UEFA Cup, Amica Wronki took part in fourth place in the Intertoto Cup.

From Orange Ekstraklasa 2005/06, the Polish champions qualified for the second qualifying round of the 2006/07 UEFA Champions League . In the 2006/07 UEFA Cup , the table runner-up (second qualifying round) and the cup winners (second round) will start. Third in the table will go to the first qualifying round, while fourth in the 2006 UEFA Intertoto Cup .

The first to be relegated was Lech Posen , who were automatically relegated from the Ekstraklasa through license withdrawal. Through the merger with Amica Wronki, the club was able to maintain its place in the Ekstraklasa. The first sporting relegation was Polonia Warsaw , while Arka Gdynia had to compete in the relegation, in which they could prevail against Jagiellonia Białystok .
