The Mazda Xedos 6 was a mid - size sedan from the Japanese manufacturer Mazda, which was located above the Mazda 626 and was produced from early 1992 to late summer 1999.
The Xedos 6 was introduced in Germany in June 1992, half a year after it appeared on the Japanese market. A total of 72,101 vehicles were produced in seven years, around 20,000 of which were sold in Germany.
history
The Xedos 6 was only available as a notchback sedan with initially only one engine and is the European counterpart to the Eunos 500 in Japan. The 2.0-liter V6 with 106 kW (144 PS) should confirm the image desired by Mazda as a luxury model.
In April 1994, a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder in- line engine with 85 kW (115 PS) was added, at the same time a facelift with modified taillights took place, now those of the Japanese model were used (yellow / red instead of white / red). In addition, the rear spoiler on the trunk lid was omitted. Both engines were revised in August 1994 and now developed 79 kW (107 PS) and 103 kW (140 PS).
In August 1996 the Mazda logo changed on the front and rear.
The Xedos 6 was available in two configurations:
- Business, with Alcantara seat cushions
- Exclusive, with leather seat cushions
As extras there was a cruise control, automatic air conditioning, an electric sunroof or an automatic transmission, which was available for both engine variants.
In September 1999 the production of the Xedos 6 was stopped. Mazda rated the model and the positioning strategy as a failure. There is no successor or plans for it.
