The Pforzheim University - Design, engineering, business and law (English Pforzheim University ) is a public college in the country Baden-Wuerttemberg . It is divided into three faculties: design, technology, and economics and law.

history

Foundation in the Grand Duchy of Baden

The grand ducal arts and crafts school and technical college for the metal industry , founded in 1877 by Grand Duke Friedrich I in Pforzheim, was primarily intended to train skilled workers for the Pforzheim jewelry and watch industry. It was renamed the Badische Kunstgewerbeschule in 1937 , the State Master's School in 1940 and the United Goldsmiths, Art and Crafts School in 1952.

Expansion and restructuring after the Second World War

In 1963 the State Higher Business School was founded. In 1971 the College of Design was created from the School of Applied Arts and other predecessor institutions . The former higher business school was transferred to the business school.

In 1992 the University of Applied Sciences for Design and the University of Applied Sciences for Business were merged to form a new faculty for technology as the University of Applied Sciences Pforzheim - University of Design, Technology and Business . In 1995 engineering courses were introduced. In 1996, teaching began in the business law course . In 2005 the name was changed to Pforzheim University - design, technology, economics and law .

International profiling

The university cooperates with over 100 partner universities. It was one of the first in the world to commit itself to complying with the “Principles for Responsible Management Education” initiated by the UN as part of the Global Compact Initiative . Since 2012 it has been certified as a “family-friendly university”.

Faculties

The university offers 29 bachelor's and 17 master's programs in the following faculties:

  • Faculty of Design (700 students)
  • Faculty of Technology (2,100 students)
  • Faculty of Economics and Law (3,200 students)

The Faculty of Business and Law is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business . This makes Pforzheim University one of eleven universities nationwide that have been accredited for one of the highest international quality standards for business schools. The technical courses are accredited by ASIIN , the business courses by AQAS .

Rankings

According to a survey of master’s students by the CHE , Pforzheim University took fifth place among the 18 universities and technical colleges assessed in 2008 in the discipline “overall study situation”.

In the ranking of universities of applied sciences by Wirtschaftswoche , Pforzheim University has been in second place in a nationwide comparison since 2012, after fourth and third places in previous years.
