history
Aviation was already in operation in Bad Neustadt in the 1930s, at that time on Altenberg north of Bad Neustadt. In June 1939 the airship Graf Zeppelin II moored there.
After the occupation by Allied troops in April 1945 , the Germans were initially banned from flying.
The glider flying interest group initially resumed flying illegally in 1949, until the association was re-established in 1950 after the flight ban was lifted. The association set about looking for a suitable position for a new airfield and found it on Grasberg . However, regular flight operations there were not approved because the site was too close to the inner-German border . Only in the years 1956 to '58 did the development of the site gradually gain momentum, when the first aircraft hangar was built and a winch launch facility was procured. Around 1960 the clubhouse and a temporary tower were built. In 1975 it was approved as a special airfield after the runway was leveled with the help of the US Army . In 1977 the towing route was extended again to 750 m, and in 1978 the tower was renewed. Since then, the facilities have been continuously expanded and modernized, and the runway has been paved over an area of 660 × 15 m. A partial area of 600 × 15 m is marked as a runway.
