This article covers the Senegalese national football team at the 2018 World Cup . Senegal, which made it to the quarter-finals when it first appeared in 2002 , took part in the final round for the second time.

qualification

The team qualified for the World Cup in Russia through the qualifying matches of the African Football Association CAF .

Games

Senegal , who has been coached by Aliou Cissé since 2015 , only had to intervene in the second round and met Madagascar in the return leg . After a 2-2 draw in the away game, the third round was reached with a 3-0 home win. This was played as a group stage and Senegal met in Group D against Burkina Faso , Cape Verde and South Africa . In the six resulting and rated matches, the Senegalese team won four and played twice. A game that was lost 2-1 to South Africa on November 12, 2016, was not counted due to match-fixing by the Ghanaian referee and was repeated a year later, with Senegal winning 2-0 and qualifying for the final round one game before the last game . Apart from the goalless home draw against Burkina Faso, the Senegalese always scored two goals in the rated games.

A total of 33 players were used, 20 of whom were also in the squad for the 2017 African Cup of Nations , in which Senegal failed in the quarter-finals on penalties due to the eventual winner Kamerung. A total of four goalkeepers were used. In the second round and the first game of the third round Abdoulaye Diallo was in goal, then Khadim N'Diaye for four games and Alfred Gomis in the last game that was no longer decisive for qualification . In addition, Pape Seydou N'Diaye came on in the 68th minute for N'Diaye in the 2-2 draw against Burkina Faso . Only Cheikhou Kouyaté and Idrissa Gueye were used in all eight rated games. Serigne Kara and Sadio Mané had to pause a game after the second yellow card and thus only made seven appearances. Senegal did not have an outstanding goal scorer. Three players scored two goals and eight players scored one goal. The team also benefited from an own goal by a South African.
