Girl ( English girl ) is a song by the British band The Beatles from 1965. It was composed largely by John Lennon , but is under the copyright Lennon / McCartney .

In Girl , Lennon describes a dream woman. Musically, the song is reminiscent of the McCartney composition Michelle . Paul McCartney, who also composed a part at the end of the song, was inspired by the theme melody of the movie Alexis Sorbas .

On November 11, 1965, the Beatles had to finish work on the album Rubber Soul so that it could be released in time for the 1965 Christmas business . They completed several songs that day, and that evening, Girl was recorded as the last song for the album. The recordings took place in London's Abbey Road Studios . The song was produced by George Martin , assisted by Norman Smith . The Beatles recorded two takes of Girl . Then vocals and solo guitar were overdubbed . George Harrison also played a distorted guitar solo, but this was not taken into account in the final mix.

Girl appeared on the Rubber Soul album less than a month after it was recorded on December 3, 1965 . As a single , the song was not released, but was part of a few later compilations . In 2011 a so-called mashup of Girl , And I Love Her and Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite was released exclusively on iTunes !
