About this picture

Himmelpforten ( Low German : Himmelpoorten ) is a municipality in Lower Saxony in the municipality of Oldendorf-Himmelpforten in the Stade district . In addition to the main town of Himmelpforten, the towns of Kuhla and Breitenwisch also belong to the municipality.

Heavenly gate is on everyone's lips , especially at Christmas time . The place then becomes the Christkinddorf . For numerous children all over the world, the place is the postal address of the Christ Child or Santa Claus . This tradition has been cultivated since the 1960s, see also: Christmas Post Office

history

In 1255 the nuns cisterze Conventus Porta Coeli moved from Westerberg near Rahden near Lamstedt to the place that was then called Eulsete . The procession of the Cistercian women was recreated on the occasion of the 750th anniversary in 2005.

Eulsete (Low German: Eylsede, etymologically interpreted as the [residential] seat of an Eylos / Eilhard) took over the course of time the Low German translation of the Latin monastery name Porta Coeli , Klooster to der Himilporten or more recently tor Hemmelpoorten , which in High German as Himmelpforten later became official.

coat of arms

The coat of arms of the community of Himmelpforten shows a golden, Gothic gate on a blue background, in which stands a silver-clad abbess with a golden crook.

The coat of arms adopted in 1955 is based on the oldest surviving version of the monastery seal, as can be found in the declaration of renunciation of the monastery of March 17, 1291, with which it gave up the claim to the personal inheritance of Dorpater Prince-Bishop Friedrich von Haseldorf that was intended for him in Stralsund .

The colors of the municipality are blue-yellow (stripes across).

Parish partnership

Himmelpfortens partner municipality is Lorrez-le-Bocage-Préaux in the French region Île-de-France .
