The championship was played in a regular season with a round trip. Each team competed twice against each other team. The bottom of the table was relegated to the then still second-rate category e dytë . The champion did not move into the European Cup because Albania had withdrawn from this competition for several years.
A total of 260 goals were scored, which corresponds to an average of 2.0 goals per game. The top scorer with 18 goals was Ilir Përnaska of KS Dinamo Tirana for the sixth time in a row .
In the new twelve league Dinamo Tirana was able to defend its title and captured the tenth championship in the club's history. But in contrast to the previous season, it was a very close decision: runner-up 17 Nëntori Tirana was only two points behind. Vllaznia Shkodra finished third behind the regained Nëntori . Besa Kavaja and Partizani Tirana followed. In the close league, the sixth Flamurtari Vlora was only four points behind the relegation rank. Tied Shkëndija Tirana , Labinoti Elbasan , previously fifth, and Lokomotiva Durrës saved themselves by just one point. After all, Naftëtari Qyteti Stalin only had to go into the second division because of the poorer goal difference against promoted Luftëtari Gjirokastra and Traktori Lushnja .
