The men's 4 x 100 meter relay at the 1997 World Athletics Championships was held on August 9 and 10, 1997 in the Olympic Stadium in the Greek capital, Athens .
Canada became world champion in the line-up of Robert Esmie (semifinals / final), Glenroy Gilbert , Bruny Surin and Donovan Bailey as well as Carlton Chambers, who were also used in the preliminary stages .
Second place went to Nigeria ( Osmond Ezinwa , Olapade Adeniken , Francis Obikwelu , Davidson Ezinwa ).
Bronze went to Great Britain with Darren Braithwaite , Darren Campbell , Douglas Walker (final) and Julian Golding as well as Dwain Chambers , who was also used in the semifinals, and Marlon Devonish, who was also used in the preliminary run .
The runners only used in the run-up were given corresponding precious metal. On the other hand, records and top performances were only available to the athletes who actually ran.
