World premieres

February 11 : The world premiere of the opera Vologeso by Niccolò Jommelli based on the libretto Lucio Vero by Apostolo Zeno takes place in Ludwigsburg.
April 7th : The opera La Nitteti by Anton Cajetan Adlgasser based on the libretto by Pietro Metastasio has its world premiere at the Residenztheater in Salzburg. A work of the same name by João de Sousa Carvalho was premiered in Rome during the carnival .

Achille in Sciro

May 8 : On Ascension Day, Florian Leopold Gassmann's setting of Pietro Metastasio's libretto Achille is premiered in Sciro at the Teatro San Giovanni Crisostomo in Venice.

April 23 : The comic opera Les Pêcheurs (The Fishermen) by François-Joseph Gossec premieres at the Comédie Italienne in Paris.

November 25th : The world premiere of the romantic and comic opera Lisuart and Dariolette or The Question and Answer by Johann Adam Hiller takes place in Leipzig.

The Mozart's concert tour

The Mozarts on their concert tour in Paris in 1766

End of April: The Mozart family leaves the Netherlands on their concert tour and travels via Brussels and Valenciennes to Paris, where they arrive on May 10th . Leopold Mozart and his two children Nannerl and Wolferl stay here for two months. The journey continues to Dijon on July 9th, followed by Geneva on August 20th .
November 29th : After a three-year tour with his two child prodigies Nannerl and Wolferl , Vice Kapellmeister Leopold Mozart returns to the Prince Archdiocese of Salzburg .

March 3 : After the death of Gregor Joseph Werner , Joseph Haydn is promoted to first conductor in the Esterházy family . Now he can also compose sacred works, which Werner has previously reserved. Haydn begins with the composition of the Missa Cellensis in honorem Beatissimae Virginis Mariae .
