The National Assembly ( Swahili Bunge ) is the Parliament in unicameral in Tanzania .

composition

Since 2015, the parliament has consisted of 393 members, of which 264 are elected by majority vote. 113 seats are given to women through proportional representation, and 10 MPs are appointed by the President. 5 MPs are sent by the parliament of the semi-autonomous state of Zanzibar .

According to constitutional article 65, the parliament of Tanzania is elected every five years, for example in the parliamentary elections in November 2010 and October 2015 .

    Parliament seat

    The seat of the National Assembly has been in the capital Dodoma since 1996, the seat of government in Dar es Salaam . In 2008 a new building was built for the parliament.

    Others

    In June 2019, the seat of opposition leader Tundu Lissu (CHADEMA) was declared vacant by the government. He was shot in 2017 and has had medical treatment since then.
