The community lies at the intersection of two landscapes, the Strohgäu (Hochdorf / Enz) and the Heckengäu (Eberdingen and Nussdorf), between 270 and 403 meters above sea level.

geology

The Strudelbach flows through Eberdingen and rises in Flacht ( Weissach municipality ) and flows into the Enz in Enzweihingen . Hochdorf and Nussdorf lie on the plateau divided by the Strudelbach and covered with loess . Muschelkalk predominates as a rock formation . Remnants of old quarries can still be found in the area.

Community structure

The municipality of Eberdingen has existed since the merger of the three districts of Eberdingen, Hochdorf an der Enz and Nussdorf in 1975. The districts are spatially identical to the former communities of the same name. The districts are officially named by prefixing the name of the municipality and followed by the name of the districts connected with a hyphen. The districts of Eberdingen and Hochdorf an der Enz only include the villages of the same name. The village of Nussdorf and the houses Sonnenberg and Sorgenmühle belong to the district of Nussdorf.

prehistory

The oldest traces of settlement can be found in the district of Hochdorf. Already in the 4th millennium BC BC people settled here. The settlement of this community in the period 750–450 BC has been particularly well researched. BC, since the unstacked Prince's grave from the Hallstatt period falls during this period .

middle Ages

Around 500 the area of the three parishes settled by the Alemanni was Frankish, Christianized and incorporated into the diocese of Speyer . When Alemannia was subdivided into Gaugrafschaften around 750, Eberdingen and Nussdorf were assigned to the Enzgau and Hochdorf to the Glemsgau . Accordingly, Eberdingen and Nussdorf belonged to the rural chapter of Vaihingen and Hochdorf to the rural chapter of Grüningen of the Diocese of Speyer until the Reformation (see map). Hochdorf was first mentioned in a document, probably in 779, in a document about the donation of goods by the Franconian Count Kunibert to the Fulda monastery . Eberdingen and Nussdorf were first mentioned around 1100 in documents from the Hirsau monastery .

Early modern age

After Duke Ulrich's return in 1534, the Reformation was introduced in Eberdingen and Nussdorf. Due to the secularization of the Hirsau Monastery in 1534, Eberdingen and Nussdorf came to the Duchy of Württemberg in 1534 and were assigned to the Office of Vaihingen . In Hochdorf, the Reformation happened around 1555 after the secularization of the Heilig-Geist-Spital in Grüningen, which was well -off in Hochdorf . Presumably because his patriarchal cross was to be seen on numerous boundary stones on the mark, the Hochdorf residents and the Bissingers adopted it as the local coat of arms. As the legal successor to the hospital, the city of Markgröningen still owns forest areas in Hochdorfer Bonholz. Parts of the Hochdorf population must have been subject to Württemberg as early as the 16th century, as they were under the administration of the Grüningen district . In the course of history, the local authority of Hochdorf has changed several times. The last local lords were the barons of Ticino, who, after a rule of around 100 years , had to submit to the Kingdom of Württemberg , which was formed at the time of Napoleon . At the latest in 1807, after the final dissolution of the Gröningen Oberamt , Hochdorf also joined the enlarged Oberamt Vaihingen .

20th century

The administrative reform during the Nazi era in Württemberg led to membership in the Vaihingen district in 1938 . At the end of the Second World War, Nussdorf experienced a disaster in April 1945: three-quarters of the village was destroyed by massive shelling by French troops within a very short time; numerous residents lost their lives in the process. In 1945 the places became part of the American zone of occupation and thus belonged to the newly founded state of Württemberg-Baden , which was incorporated into the current state of Baden-Württemberg in 1952.

In 1973 the district reform in Baden-Württemberg took place , in which Eberdingen, Hochdorf and Nussdorf came from the dissolved district of Vaihingen to the extended district of Ludwigsburg.

To distinguish it from today's Remseck district of the same name, Hochdorf was renamed Hochdorf an der Enz on June 19, 1973 (although it is not located on the Enz, but on the plateau south of it). On August 15, 1973 also the spelling of the hamlet was later Nussdorf in Nussdorf changed.

Community merger

Today's municipality of Eberdingen was created on September 20, 1975 during the municipal reform in Baden-Württemberg through the union of the three municipalities of Eberdingen, Hochdorf an der Enz and Nussdorf.

badges and flags

The municipal coat of arms shows three green rose branches growing out of the tops of a green three-mountain (the two outer branches crossed at an angle), each of which bears a five-petalled red rose with green sepals. The municipality flag is red and yellow. The coat of arms and flag were awarded to the municipality on May 10, 1977.

The three roses in the coat of arms symbolize the three districts, whereby the old Eberdingen municipal coat of arms already contained a rose. The coats of arms and flags of the three predecessor parishes were as follows:

  • Eberdingen: In gold, a green grape on a green stem, from which a green leaf extends to the top left; top right a five-petalled red rose; awarded along with a red and yellow flag on March 24, 1969.
  • Hochdorf an der Enz: A black patriarchal cross in gold , which, like in Bissingen , is likely to have come from the Grüninger Heilig-Geist-Spital .
  • Nussdorf: In silver, a five-leaf green walnut branch. On October 18, 1962, the place received a green and white municipal flag.
