Ocean's 13 (Original title: Ocean's Thirteen ) is a 2007 film directed by Steven Soderbergh . It is the continuation of the films Ocean's Eleven of 2001 and Ocean's 12 by 2004 .

Reuben Tishkoff would like to really invest in his old days: Together with casino owner Willy Bank, he wants to build a new hotel casino in Las Vegas . However, Willy Bank cheats on him and forces him to cede his shares in the casino to him. Reuben then had a heart attack and became bedridden and apathetic. The gang around Danny Ocean decides to avenge Reuben by manipulating the slot machines and gaming tables in Banks new casino. They plan this with artificial intelligence equipped casino surveillance system Greco for three minutes by a magnetron tube off. As many casino guests as possible should be able to win large sums of money in a short period of time. An artificial earthquake is then to be triggered with a tunnel boring machine , which means that all winners and their winnings can leave the casino unmolested thanks to an evacuation plan initiated in advance - the “exit strategy”.
Bank expects to get another Five Diamond Award for this hotel casino , but the gang uses Saul as a fake hotel tester and at the same time ensures that the real tester gets a very bad impression of the casino. Eventually, he is thrown out of his room with a deliberately induced allergic rash. It is evident that he is about to pass a damning verdict on the hotel.
Since the joint capital of the twelve is insufficient due to an unscheduled failure of the tunnel boring machine, Danny Ocean turns to Terry Benedict with a request for further financing of the plan. Benedict demands that his investment be doubled and that five diamond necklaces be stolen from Banks Casino, which he does not claim for himself, but to damage the bank. Bank gave his wife a diamond necklace for every award in one of his casino hotels and keeps this in his hotel in a specially secured room. In order to get the diamonds, Linus, alias Pepperidge Banks, wants to seduce Abigail Sponder, the only one other than the bank to have access to the diamond room. The artificially caused earthquake is not enough to switch off the Greco surveillance system , nor does it induce guests to leave the casino with their winnings as part of an evacuation as planned. However, Greco is unintentionally brought to a three-minute failure by the bank, because a magnetic field tube has been built into his new cell phone through manipulation, which Greco can shut down and restart itself for self-protection. The failure is used to win half a billion dollars on rigged roulette and dice. A natural earthquake triggered by the artificial earthquake finally evacuated the hotel and caused the bankruptcy of the bank.
Although Terry Benedict initially allegedly wanted to do without the diamonds, he later tries to get them after the robbery with the help of the “night fox” Toulour. The team manages to outsmart both of them with fake diamonds. The right jewels are in a glass box made of thick armored glass, which is attached to the concrete ceiling on the top floor. The concrete is first blasted in a circle from above. Then a helicopter pulls out this piece with the glass case and flies away.
"As a punishment" Benedict does not receive his 72 million US dollar share of the profit. Instead, the sum is donated to orphans in his name, about which he later patronizes Oprah Winfrey .
Towards the end, all 12 (without Terry Benedict - number 13) meet at a canal in Las Vegas and Danny gives Reuben, who thanks to Basher Tarr's letters has found his will to live and has recovered, a purchase contract for a property in Las Vegas; they want to build a casino.
In the final scene, Rusty meets the hotel tester at the airport, who - still with a rash - tries desperately to leave the city but cannot get a plane ticket. Rusty manipulates a slot machine and brings the tester a profit of eleven million dollars.

Kirk Honeycutt wrote in the Hollywood Reporter on May 25, 2007 that the film contained much of the spirit of the first film. He doesn't have the freshness of it, but doesn't lose time explaining individual figures.
Todd McCarthy wrote in Variety magazine that the "smooth", "elegant" and "meaningful" film continued the tradition of the first two films in the series in a positive sense.
Felicitas Kleiner wrote about Ocean's 13 in the June 2007 film service : “Instead of counting up from the 'Eleven', the dramaturgical density might have been better served with the opposite. All in all, Soderbergh's new film is not a big hit, but it is definitely a well-played hand. "
