Show jumping
singles
The result of the individual evaluation for the show jumpers consisted of the fault points of the two courses of the individual final. The fault points from the first qualification and the team competition were not included in the individual results of the best 45 riders. Since three riders with their horses were tied on points after the two rounds of the individual final, a jump-off for the distribution of the medals was necessary. Here Jeroen Dubbeldam showed the slowest of the three rides, but was the only one to stay clear and thus became a gold medalist.
Markus Fuchs did not compete with Tinka's Boy in the second round of the individual final. Günter Orschel , who started for Bulgaria, missed the individual finals. After the team competition he was ranked 58th (out of 74 participants).

team
The team victory went to the German team, with a margin of error, silver went to Switzerland. The gap between these two teams and the other teams was clear: the fifth-placed Dutch had twice as many points as the Swiss in the two rounds of the team competition, while the eleventh-placed Japanese had four times as many points as the Swiss team.
The bronze medal had to be won. Three of the four Brazilian riders made no mistakes in the jump-off, France came fourth.
