Grande Rue Chère in Pont-Croix |
Pont-Croix ( Breton Pontekroaz ) is a commune on Cap Sizun in Cornouaille in the Finistère department in Brittany in western France .
1580 inhabitants live on 8.09 km² (as of January 1, 2017). Pont-Croix is five kilometers from Audierne on one of the three narrow streets that cut through Cap Sizun from west to east and lead from the Baie de Trépassés, via Audierne (and northern viewpoints) to Douarnenez and Quimper . Pont-Croix is chef-lieu , the former customs post of the canton of the same name. When the Goyen river was still navigable up to the landing stage in the center of the village, the goods of the sailing ships were brought further inland across the bridge of Pont-Croix. There was also a small railway line for this purpose, the train de carottes, which was abandoned at the beginning of the 20th century for economic reasons.
