Rajshahi ( Bengali : রাজশাহী) is a district in Rajshahi . The capital of the district is the city of the same name Rajshahi , which is also the administrative center of the division. The total area of ​​the district is 2,425.37 km². The district is made up of 13 Upazilas .

Rajshahi is bounded in the north by the Naogaon , in the east by the Nator and in the south by the Nawabganj and the Padma River . The district has 2,286,874 inhabitants (2011 census). The literacy rate is 53% of the population. 89.7% of the population are Muslims , 8.8% are Hindus and 1.5% are Christians , Buddhists or others.

During the summer, the minimum and maximum average temperature varies from 25.5 to 38.7 degrees. Precipitation is greatest from July to September. The district's annual rainfall in 2011 was 1,862 millimeters. The humidity was 77% in April and 88% in July.

Outside of the urbanized areas, the economy of the district is predominantly characterized by agriculture . The center of industry is Rajshahi City. The most common export products are silk , jute and food. According to the 2011 census, 62.2% of the workforce work in agriculture, 31.4% in the service sector (mostly in informal settings) and 6.2% in industry .
