Soyuz T-3 is the mission name for the flight of the Soviet Soyuz spacecraft to the Soviet space station Salyut 6, which started on November 27, 1980 . As the fifth long-term crew of this station, the mission was called Salyut 6 EO-5 . It was the 14th visit by a manned Soyuz spacecraft to this space station and the 61st flight in the Soviet Soyuz program.

Main crew

Makarov also achieved the Soviet record of three flights into orbit. In addition, he had experienced an aborted start with Soyuz 18-1 .

Substitute team

The support team consisted of Yuri Isaulow , Nikolai Rukawischnikow and Mikhail Potapov .

Mission overview

The focus of the flight was the testing of the three-seat version of the Soyuz-T spaceship. For the first time since the Soyuz 11 flight in 1971, three cosmonauts had taken off in a spaceship, and for the first time the regular crew of Salyut 6 consisted of three people.

Incidentally, the renovation of the Salyut 6 station was part of the short flight. In addition, all experiments (Splaw, Kristall, Swetoblok and Oasis) were put into operation, biological objects brought along were observed, etc. On December 2nd, the microclimate experiment was carried out to improve living conditions and work on temperature control began. A new device for the water circuit with four pumps was installed. On December 4th, the electronics of the telemetry system were replaced and on December 5th, errors in the electrical system were eliminated. Other repairs concerned the replacement of a program and time control device in the on-board control (the on-board control of the Salyut 6, like all Soyuz before Soyuz T, did not use a digital on-board computer) and the replacement of a power supply for the compressor in the fuel refill system. The regular EO-4 team , Popov and Ryumin , supported the team from the ZUP (control center) with instructions for the repairs.
