Swimming world championships
Swimming world championships have been held by the international swimming federation FINA since 1973 . At first there was no uniform cycle. Since 2001 the world championships have been held every two years in the odd years.
The focus of the world championships is on the swimming competitions in the 50-meter swimming pool. In addition, competitions in water jumping , water polo , synchronized swimming and long-distance swimming are held, so that the events resemble real "world games" of swimming. Due to the large number of participants, participating countries and competitions, swimming world championships are among the largest events in world sport after the Olympic Games , the soccer world championships and the athletics world championships .
