Athlete of the year 1970 (Germany)
The athletes of the year 1970 in the Federal Republic of Germany were honored on December 18 in the Kurhaus Baden-Baden . The election was organized for the 24th time by the Internationale Sport-Korrespondenz (ISK). 577 sports journalists cast their votes. For the winner Hans Fassnacht prevented by a competition in the United States after on behalf of Folkert Meeuw the prize. After Gottfried von Cramm ( 1947 and 1948 ), Hans Günter Winkler ( 1955 and 1956 ) and Gerhard Hetz ( 1962 and 1963 ), Fassnacht was the fourth athlete to receive this honor for the second time in a row. Formula 1 world champion Jochen Rindt , who died in an accident in September 1970, received 45 votes posthumously (22nd place) in the athlete election.
