Westerwald (church district)

The Westerwald district is one of the eleven districts of the Limburg diocese . The Westerwald district is located in the Rhineland-Palatinate part of the diocese and includes the Westerwald district including individual communities in the neighboring districts.

Size and location

The district is one of the largest in the diocese both in terms of area and in terms of the number of Catholics and parishes. The district area extends from the Stelzenbach communities ( Gackenbach ) in the south to Bad Marienberg in the north. The largest city in the district is Montabaur . A total of around 108,000 Catholics live in the congregations, which are largely still structured as a national church. For comparison: The diocese of Limburg with its eleven districts has a total of 669,271 (December 31, 2008 / AP2010). The area is divided into 3 deaneries with 9 new-type parishes, in which there are 69 parishes. District dean is Peter Hofacker.
