The World Band Festival Lucerne is a music festival for wind music making, which takes place at the end of September in Lucerne , Switzerland. During the nine days of the festival, around 1,500 artists from all over the world meet at the KKL Luzern to compete in music competitions or to organize concert evenings.
history
The World Band Festival Luzern (WBFL) took place for the first time from September 22nd to 26th, 1999 in the KKL Luzern. Four gala concerts, a national and a European brass band competition took place over five days of the festival. When it was first held, the festival, with 9,000 festival visitors, achieved an occupancy rate of over 90%. The WBFL is a niche festival that focuses on wind instruments . The festival has been steadily expanded over the years and is now one of the largest and most important festivals in Europe for wind music with over 20,000 visitors and 1,500 artists on nine festival days. From brass band, wind band , jazz , swing , world music , classical , folk music to salsa , the festival covers a unique variety of music genres. Swiss radio has been producing a live broadcast on the opening day of the festival since 2003 , which is broadcast nationwide. Formations from home and abroad appear on three open-air stages in front of the KKL Luzern. In 2007 the Tattoo on Stage festival launched , a military parade designed for the concert stage of the KKL Luzern.
Foundation, endowment
Since December 2004 a foundation based in Lucerne has been in existence under the name “Foundation World Band Festival Luzern”. The purpose of the foundation is to organize and carry out the World Band Festival Lucerne as a high-quality platform for wind music-making. In addition to concerts, it can also hold specialist exhibitions, specialist congresses and all kinds of wind events. The foundation sees itself as a non-profit organization.
