Boisbreteau is a western French community with 136 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Charente in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine (before 2016 Poitou-Charentes ). The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Cognac and the canton of Charente-Sud (until 2015: Brossac ). The inhabitants are called Boisbreteausiens .

Boisbreteau is located about 45 kilometers south-southwest of Angoulême . Boisbreteau is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Oriolles in the north and north-east, Guizengeard in the east, Chevanceaux in the south and south-west, Bors (Canton de Charente-Sud) in the west and Touvérac in the north-west.
