economy
For centuries, the inhabitants of the community lived from agriculture; the soils of the municipality belong to the fins bois of the Cognac wine-growing region and so there are several vineyards in the vicinity of the place. Tourism in the form of rental of holiday homes has also contributed to the municipality's income since the 1960s.
history
The presence of a Romanesque church attests to the medieval existence of the place, which was called Champagne de Blanzac until 1983 .
Attractions
- The Romanesque apse, structured by half-column templates and raised blind arches, and the block-like crossing tower of the parish church of Saint-Christophe , which was built around the same time, can be attributed to the early 12th century; the nave and the west facade with their triumphal arch scheme in the portal zone and the three blind arches in the plain above are clearly the work of the middle of the 12th century. The structure of the facade corresponds to that of the church in the neighboring parish of Chadurie . The single-nave nave and the crossing are convincing due to the precise craftsmanship of stone work, which continues into the vault and the crossing dome resting on pendentives ; in the apse the triumphal arch scheme of the portal zone is repeated to some extent. The church has been recognized as a monument historique since 1990 .
- The Logis du Maine-Giraud is located about one and a half kilometers southwest of the village ( 45 ° 29 ′ 49 ″ N , 0 ° 1 ′ 45 ″ E ) and was the residence of the poet Alfred de Vigny from 1827 to 1863 . The early modern building complex with its square corner towers has been recognized as a monument historique since 1967 ; Today it houses the Musée de Vigny, dedicated to the poet .
