The population decline in the first half of the 20th century is mainly due to the loss of jobs as a result of the phylloxera crisis and the mechanization of agriculture .

economy

While the inhabitants of the village lived for centuries on the yields of their fields and gardens, viticulture was promoted in the late Middle Ages and early modern times , which - after the interruption caused by the phylloxera crisis in the late 19th and early 20th centuries - still continues today the most important source of income for the community. Tourism in the form of renting holiday apartments ( gîtes ) also plays a not insignificant role in the economic life of the municipality.

history

With the help of aerial photo archeology, a spacious Neolithic settlement was discovered in the municipal area, which was surrounded by ramparts up to 20 m thick and 10 m high. The existence of a Gallo-Roman country estate ( villa rustica ) has also been archaeologically proven.

In the Hundred Years War (1337-1453) the church of the place was badly damaged.

Attractions

The Romanesque parish church of Saint-Sulpice is a single-nave building from the second half of the 12th century, but it was rebuilt after being severely damaged during the Hundred Years War. The most important structural element is the choir section with the apse divided by half columns and blind arches and the renewed crossing tower . The nave is stabilized by buttresses ; the west facade shows a small rose window above a pointed arch portal , which is protected by a wooden porch. Inside, the original barrel vault was replaced by a ridge vault in the 15th century. The church building has been recognized as a monument historique since 1948 . In 2014 the roof was largely repaired.
