Christina Lathan , b. Brehmer (born February 28, 1958 in Altdöbern ) is a former German athlete and Olympic champion.

Life

She started training in 1969 at SG Dynamo Senftenberg . It was Gerhard Lootze who gave her important foundations for her athletic development. In September 1973 she was delegated to SC Dynamo Berlin . She became a member of the People's Police , studied economics and after the end of the GDR worked at the public order office in Senftenberg.

Athletic career

In 1976 she set several German records over 400 meters. On April 25, it improved the existing record in Sochi to 50.1 s, on May 1 in Split to 50.39 s and on May 9 in Dresden to 49.77 s, which also meant a world record (the first electronic stopped time under 50 seconds).

At the XXI. At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montréal , Canada , she won the silver medal (50.51s) in the 400-meter run behind the Polish Irena Szewińska (gold) and ahead of the German Ellen Streidt (bronze) as well as the team gold medal in the 4-time-400 -Meter relay in world record time together with their teammates Doris Maletzki , Brigitte Rohde and Ellen Streidt. In 1979 she won the indoor championships in the GDR and in 1980 she finished second over 400 meters.

At the XXII. At the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow , she achieved the bronze medal over 400 meters behind the also German Marita Koch (gold) and the Czech Jarmila Kratochvílová . She also won a medal over 4 x 400 meters, this time the silver medal, together with her teammates Gabriele Löwe , Barbara Krug and Marita Koch.

Your trainer Inge Utecht praises her strong fighting spirit and will to win, but also her persistence. In her playing days, Christina Lathan was 1.68 m tall and weighed 64 kg.
