The Division 2 1982/83 was the 44th staging of the second highest French football league . It has been an open championship with professionals and amateurs since 1970. The game was played from July 31, 1982 to May 20, 1983; There was a six-week winter break from mid-December to the end of January.
Second division champions were Stade Rennes .
societies
The 26 clubs that had not been promoted to the first division or relegated to the third division (national) after the previous season were eligible to participate ; there were also three first division relegated and seven promoted from the national . These 36 participants played in two groups, divided mainly according to regional criteria (one with teams from the north and west and one with teams from the south and east). Thus, the following teams played for the division 2 championship this season :
- Group A: Relegated US Valenciennes-Anzin , US Nœux-les-Mines , SC Abbeville , Le Havre AC , promoted Racing Paris , promoted ES Viry-Châtillon , promoted AS Corbeil-Essonnes , Stade Rennes , EA Guingamp , SCO Angers , LB Châteauroux , FC Limoges , AS Angoulême , AS Libourne , AS Béziers , relegated Montpellier La Paillade SC , promoted Olympique Alès , Olympique Nîmes
- Group B: US Dunkerque , Stade Français 92 Paris , promoted AS Red Star Saint-Ouen , Stade Reims , FC Fontainebleau-Bagneaux , US Orléans , promoted CS Blénod-lès-Pont-à-Mousson , Racing Club Franc-Comtois Besançon , promoted Entente Montceau-les-Mines , FC Gueugnon , CS Cuiseaux-Louhans , FC AS Grenoble , CS Thonon , FC Martigues , Olympique Marseille , SC Toulon , AS Cannes , relegated OGC Nice
Only the first in the group were eligible for direct promotion. In addition, there was a relegation between the worst-placed first division team, who was not directly relegated , and the best second division team, who was not directly eligible for promotion.
Season course
Each team played a return match against each group opponent, once in front of their own audience and once away. The two-point rule applied ; in the event of a tie, the goal difference was decisive for the placement. In France, when specifying the point ratio, only the number of plus points is given; here this is done in the notation used in Germany at the time of the 2-point rule.
All three relegated from the previous year played for a long time for the immediate promotion, but after 34 game days none of them found themselves on one of the places that made this possible. This time, of the seven teams that had competed in third class twelve months earlier, only Racing Paris convinced in fourth place; on the other hand, three other newcomers immediately descended, and only the withdrawal of the US Nœux-les-Mines prevented a fourth (Alès or Montceau-les-Mines) from having to go the same way. As in the previous year Grenoble, Libourne, a second division player, set the league record of undecided outcomes (18 of 34 matches) in 1982/83.
In the 612 matches, 1,503 hits were scored; this corresponds to an average of 2.46 goals per game. The most successful goal scorers were in Group A Włodzimierz Lubański from the US Valenciennes-Anzin with 28 and in Group B Christian Dalger (Sporting Toulon) with 18 goals; Lubański won the league top scorer's crown. For the following season , the relegated FC Tours , Olympique Lyon and FC Mulhouse were added from Division 1 ; six teams rose from the third-highest league ( FC Roubaix , CS Sedan , Stade Quimper , FC La Roche-sur-Yon , FC Villefranche and FC Sète ), so that the league was then played with 37 participants.

Relegation
According to the same mode, the two runners-up fought to see which of them against the first division 18. FC Tours was allowed to play for another promotion place in the top division. Nîmes (3-1) and Reims (1-0) each won their home game, so the goal difference was the decisive factor in favor of the southern French. Then Olympique Nîmes also defeated Tours (3: 1 and 1: 1) in the addition of two games and thus rose to Division 1 as the third second division .
