As of February 11, 2016

The 2016 Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships were a premier women's tennis tournament . They took place in Dubai from February 13 to 20, 2016 and were played on hard courts. The same week the Rio Open 2016 took place in Rio de Janeiro .

A total of 56 players played in the main draw of the tournament. The top four players qualified directly for the second round. For the first time in the history of a WTA tournament, all eight seeded players lost their opening game. This case had never happened at the ATP either.

The defending champions were Simona Halep in singles and the pairing Tímea Babos and Kristina Mladenovic in doubles.
