Emsland open-air theater in Meppen
The Emsland open-air theater Meppen has been located on the northern outskirts of Esterfeld in the city of Meppen since 1951 .
From May to September, the open-air stage offers visitors a family musical and an evening play, mostly from the field of musicals. The up to 44,000 visitors who come to the natural stage in the Esterfelder Forst each year are offered pieces of equipment from the field of music theater. Over 100 actors are on or behind the stage in every production.
history
The association was founded on November 26, 1950 in the Germania Hotel in Meppen. The groundbreaking ceremony for the Waldbühne took place on February 15, 1951. The first performance took place on May 14, 1951: Das Käthchen von Heilbronn by Heinrich von Kleist .
In the first years of the open-air stage, numerous students from the Meppen high school and students from the Liebfrauenschule Meppen played as extras.
The open-air stage is located in the middle of the forest and offers 1698 (1668 fixed seating, 30 wheelchair spaces) spectators space.
