Playoffs
The games took place as follows: on November 28, 1956, Nice against Glasgow in Paris ; Real versus Rapid in Madrid on December 13, 1956. There were several options for the Rapid Wien match, but the Viennese opted for the financially most lucrative offer from the Madrilenians. The presidium of the ÖFB forbade the event in Madrid on November 22nd, as the play-offs would have to take place on neutral ground, whereby the statutes do not object to the event in Barcelona . After UEFA asked the ÖFB to agree to the event in Madrid "due to technical difficulties", the ÖFB gave its permission on November 30th
