The Football League Third Division 1968/69 was the 42nd season of the Football League Third Division as the third highest English football league . Third division champions were the Watford FC and also the second-placed Swindon Town rose to the Football League Second Division . In the following third division season 1969/70, the two second division clubs FC Bury and FC Fulham, ranked in the table below, took the places for the two promoted teams . Northampton Town , Hartlepools United , Crewe Alexandra and Oldham Athletic had to relegate from the Third Division to the Football League Fourth Division . Instead of these clubs, the fourth division champions Doncaster Rovers and the Halifax Town , AFC Rochdale and Bradford City placed behind them took the vacant positions in the following season 1969/70 .
